Go for it! You'll love it. I work for Verizon maintaining this new technology, in the central office. It's the latest technology and the fastest and most reliable out there now. You can't any better than fiber optic glass to your home. This way of delivering service to the home has been in development for decades and it finally happened. I couldn't believe it when I saw it for the first time. Fiber optic is only using a third of it's capacity from what I was told. In the days and years to come we are going to see many new and exciting things available to us offered I feel. I'm hoping to see videophones as was so much science fiction a long time ago. I can easily happen now.
The picture quality on your tv, especially HD or High Definition is excellent. I've got a six month old Panasonic plasma screen now and after finally figuring out how to set the video settings, I can now see when a signal is high def or standard def. The tv will automatically switch to the full screen, high def mode when I change to a high def channel. I especially like to watch Discovery Channel and National Geographic now in high def.
The pricing is competitive but no other company can match the fiber optic to the home right now. Verizon is the only one that has it. They are the frontrunner so far and the others will be playing catch up soon if at all. Remember, you get a fiber optic path all the way to your home, no sharing like you have to do now on cable. Therefore no slow downs in internet speeds. I constantly get a 5 mps download on a laptop. That was unheard of just a couple of years ago. And for only $42,99 a month. With that get a router that has wireless capability that I use for the other laptop in the master bedroom. The speed is adequate too.
Yes, Verizon was slow to get the free LCD tv's out to the new customers as they didn't anticipate the overwhelming demand. It was a great deal. Check online as they have different offers each month. www.verizon.com/fios will get you there.
Oh, service is excellent also. I've used their tech support several times at the beginning but now have everything understood on my end and things are working very well. Only downside I can think of at the moment is you will have to get used to maybe having to power cycle the router once in a great while as it will get hosed up just like any pc or device with a processor in it, to get the internet hooked up and working again. Maybe I've got a defective router? I don't know, the one before it was worse than this one. This is all new technology and we have to get used to the fact that we will be beta testers for some of this stuff until the manufacturers get it right. They depend on us to give them bug reports as they can't possibly find all the bugs as we the consumers can. So, be patient if you have any problem, call tech support, work with them, don't give up. I'll guarantee you'll you come to love FIOS as I have.
